Re: LMA standards? |
The two shows you mention come from the same uploader, and the problems are being addressed. WMA files are unacceptable and were replaced for one show; he's working on the other one.
As far as source information, ideally we like to have as much as possible, but given the choice between no recording and one of indeterminate origin, we'll take the latter. If at a later point the source info is discovered, it can be added/modified of course.

Re: LMA standards? |
I'm still seeing .wma files on this page -
http://www.archive.org/details/littlefeat1983-05-08.wmaand new Feat sources going up with no checksums.
I don't mean to be a pest but I thought sources were not added to the LMA until the ffp/md5's check out on your end. Am I mistaken? Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: LMA standards? |
Albix, I am working on this. But please give me a few more hours - or even days to correct this. By the way, my wma files are not lossy. ...
Best wishes,

Done. But it seems to me, that I am waisting my time here. It seems, that you don`t appreciate my work. Instead of reporting anything, you should offer help. For me, I am pissed to read such a thread. ...

This is an archive, not an ego boost project. If you're doing this to get thanks and plaudits from others, you're going about it the wrong way. Do it right, and the thanks will come in due time. :)

Re: LMA standards? |
I'm sorry you don't feel as though your uploads are appreciated. Let there be no doubt that they are.
On the other hand, you must understand that this is a
permanent archive of live recordings. There are standards that we ask people to follow - lossless, cross-platform files, detailed documentation - and we ask people to adhere them so that these files are universally accessible. That's archive.org's mission, and there are over 60,000 recordings here that do follow those standards.
If you want to upload undocumented files in other formats, that's perfectly acceptable - they just don't belong in the Live Music Archive collection. On the other hand, if you've ever downloaded or streamed a show from here, go back to one and take a look at how things are organized - detailed, informative text files with source/conversion information, track timings, properly-tagged mp3's and correctly-titled tracks in the streaming Flash player.
Bottom line, we always love to see folks jumping in and uploading from their collections, but it's never a bad idea to take a look at what's been done before you and try to match what's there. If you don't have the source information, that's fine, but it would help to have more detailed documentation of what you *do* know.

Re: LMA standards? |
Got the point. But it would be a good idea to have something like an advice-link with rules and regulations before you are able to upload something. I might be stupid, but I haven`t seen such infos on the upload site. However, if you have such infos, I was unable to find them. ...
Regarding new uploads, I will convert them to Flac and name them as others do. But I will leave unknown infos out. Because I don`t want to give false/wrong infos. Most of the shows that I have are in Audio-Format (wma). And I have traded them with friends all over the world. So therefore I don`t have any line-ages, etc. We simply love to listen to music. We are normally not into the technical stuff. So, if you accept this, I am more than happy to upload more shows to your archive. ...

Re: LMA standards? |
LMA standards. I'm not trying to single anyone out or be a jerk but these file sets in question contain lossy files or files that have no lineage whatsoever. This latest file set has "mp3" in the linage.
http://www.archive.org/details/littlefeat1990-09-16I never had any intention of scolding anyone or singling out anyone. I'm all for the kind of generosity shown by our friend Krautrock. Thanks again man!
I try to keep track of the Little Feat LMA donations on the db.etree end. My original intention was to point out these errors to the LMA. My communication skills have been known to be lacking, so I apologize. I'm really just trying to help.
